Deliah Taoum

Senior Instructor of English
Program Coordinator, Academic English Sequence (ENG201 & ENG202)

Deliah Taoum is a Senior English Instructor at LAU. She is also Program Coordinator overseeing ENG 102 and ENG 202 and teaches courses in the Liberal Arts Program: LAS 209H: Doing Gender and LAS 217: Voices of Change.

After graduating in 2007 with a BA in English Language and Literature and a minor in Political Science from the University of Balamand, she moved back to the US and earned a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Rutgers. At Rutgers, her concentration was on Women’s and Gender Studies and their connection to literature.

Ms. Taoum moved back to Lebanon in 2010 and served as Assistant Coordinator and English Instructor at AUT in Halat for two years before moving on to teaching part-time at the University of Balamand and LAU. She joined LAU full-time in Fall 2019.

As an instructor, she aims for her students to understand that language courses are not only about completing the assigned writing and oral tasks, but also about recognizing how the skills they develop can enrich their academic, professional, and personal lives. Through her literature and gender courses, she encourages students to engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives, explore questions of identity and social justice, and appreciate how storytelling and critical inquiry can deepen their understanding of both themselves and the world around them.
